AUDIT COMMITTEE
The Audit Committee consists of three members appointed by Council. The senior member of the committee serves as Chair of the committee. The committee:

1) Audits the annual financial report of the Society
2) Approves the financial report prepared by the Secretary-Treasurer to be presented to the Council and the membership at the annual business meeting

AWARDS COMMITTEE
The Awards Committee consists of the current ASPN President, the previous three Presidents and two members appointed by the council. The current President serves as Chair of the committee. The committee:

1) Determines on an annual basis the recipient of the Founder’s Award
2) Nominates ASPN members for various awards given by Professional Societies.

CLINICAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
The Clinical Affairs Committee consists of members appointed by Council. A Council member, an at-large member appointed by Council, and the Chairperson of the AAP Section on Nephrology Executive Committee serve as Co-Chairs of the committee. The committee:

1) Facilitates and advocates for the provision of quality care to children with kidney disease.
2) In conjunction with the Public Policy committee educates the ASPN membership about fiscal issues that impact the clinical practice of pediatric nephrology.
3) Serves as liaison to other organizations that have respolnsibility of developing guidelines, educational and clinical care materials (AAP, NK-DEP, K/DOQI, NIDDK Clearinghouse, RPA, others). 
4) Serves as a task force for Council in evaluating issues of clinical importance. 
5) Assists ASPN by critically evaluating newly developed guidelines and policies that affect pediatric patients.
6) Provides the ASPN Program Committee with suggestions for sessions at PAS and other ASPN meetings that are relevant to the clinical practice of pediatric nephrology.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Membership Committee will consist of ASPN members appointed by the Council. A Council member, and an at-large member appointed by Council, serve as Co-Chairs of the Committee. 

The charges assigned to the Membership Committee are:

1.       To establish the qualifications and the rights for different classes of ASPN members (Active member, Associate member, Emeritus member, Affiliate member and Trainee member), and to provide the Council with their recommendations,
2.       To evaluate submitted applications for membership to ASPN, and to forward recommendations to the Council for final approval,
3.       To develop tools to enhance communication between ASPN members,
4.       To facilitate professional development of its members,
5.       To work with other ASPN committees and professional societies to develop programs that would be valuable to ASPN members, and
6.       To widen the membership and advocate for ASPN members.

PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE
The Public Policy Committee and Co-Chairs consists of ASPN members appointed by Council and the ASPN Washington Representative. The Committee:

1) Advocates for public policies and programs that advance the interests of the Society’s members, patients and their families
2) Gives voice to those interests before the U.S. congress, federal agencies and other voluntary health organizations
3) Represents the interests of the Society, patients and their families in coalition with like-minded organizations before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies
4) Serves as the Society’s eyes and ears by gathering, analyzing and disseminating information pertinent to its members
5) Provides advice and counsel in the development and evaluation of the Society’s formal positions, initiatives and responses pertaining to public policy
6) Works cooperatively with the Research Committee in the development and promotion of research policies

RESEARCH COMMITTEE
The Research committee and Co-Chairs consist of members appointed by Council. The committee:

1) Identifies and promotes clinical and basic science research initiatives [in] relevant to the pediatric nephrology community
2) Develops new strategies for encouraging and supporting research by our community
3) Serves as a task force for the ASPN Council for reviewing issues of research interest
4) Serves as liaison with other organizations (e.g. ASN, NIH) that promotes and support research
5) Contributes recommendations for symposia/workshops for ASPN Annual Meeting program consideration
6) Evaluates nominations and selects winners of Annual Research Trainee Awards
7) Participates in any other activities related to supporting the research effort of the Society’s membership
8) In conjunction with the Public Policy Committee, the Research Committee educates the ASPN membership about fiscal and policy issues that impact research relevant to the care of children with kidney disease
9) In conjunction with the Central office, the Committee promotes mechanisms to facilitate research collaboration and mentorship among the members.

TRAINEE & CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE
The Training/Certification Committee consists of members appointed by Council. A Council member and at least one at-large member appointed by Council serve as Co-Chairs of the committee. The committee:

  1. Works with ASPN membership, fellowship training program directors and other organizations to facilitate training and certification of future pediatric nephrologists and support the ongoing certification needs of practicing pediatric nephrologists. These duties include but are not limited to:
    • a. Interactions with ACGME, the ABP, and other entities as needed to represent the membership of the ASPN in matters pertaining to fellowship training, initial certification and maintenance of certification.
    • b. Support for fellowship training program directors, trainees, and potential trainees .
    • c. Broad and open communications between the committee, the ASPN, and all outside entities.
