With interests ranging from pediatric
nephrology trainees to issues related to maintenance of certification for
established pediatric nephrologists, the Training and Certification committeeβs
work encompasses a broad range of issues in the discipline. The committee
represents the ASPN membership and future ASPN members, but more importantly,
attends to the need for well trained pediatric nephrologists to provide quality
care to children in North America and to help set the pace in training and care
around the world. Membership in the Training and Certification committee is
open to all ASPN members. Membership to the two working subcommittees/subgroups
(the Program Directors subcommittee and the PFeNa β Fellows group) is open to
all members with those roles in their respective institutions.
βHotβ topics currently include: the
mechanisms for a Pediatric Nephrology fellowship match, issues related to
encouraging more residents to choose a career in pediatric nephrology, best
methods to prepare pediatric nephrologists for upcoming maintenance of
certification (MOC) tests and other MOC requirements (eg., American Board of
Pediatrics Part IV Quality Improvement projects) and efforts to allow Pediatric
Nephrology Fellowship Program Directors to share best educational methods. For
more information about the work of the Training and Certification Committee,
